During the month of February 2022, Wonderful Machine saw a decline in some of the same numbers that it celebrated only a month ago. What a difference 28 days can make!
Since February is a shorter month, we could only compare it to the 28 preceding days and not all of January. This leads me to wonder what difference a leap year could make!
In February wonderfulmachine.com enjoyed the company of 8,372 users. The previous month (Jan 4th until the 31st) received 9,916 users, constituting a decline of -15.6%. What’s more, during February 2021 the site received 10,343 users, such that February 2022 constitutes a drop of -19.1% in comparison!
During February, users viewed 33,827 pages during 12,221 distinct sessions, reflecting drops of -6.3 and -14.1%, respectively. In comparison to the previous year, sessions declined by -15.5% and pageviews dropped by -21.2%.
Yet what a difference in quality 30 days can make! The sessions per user, pageviews per session, average session duration, and the bounce rate unilaterally improved in comparison to the previous month. Those numbers improved by +1.8, +8.9, +15.9, and -6.4%, respectively. In comparison to February 2021, the numbers are equivocal. Pageviews per session decreased by -6.8%, but sessions per user, average session duration, and bounce rate all improved, by +4.4, +28.1, and -7.4%. In the case of the bounce rate, a decrease is a good thing as you’ll always want your bounce rate to be lower because it means fewer users are navigating off your site.
Since I’ve worked at Wonderful Machine (3 years) our website has progressively expanded its powers to collect and present information, and our photographer directory is the chef-d’œuvre.
During February users — 1,544 fewer than the previous period — performed more photographer searches than in the previous period. They sought photographers 4,964 times, which is a +16.7% increase over the 4,253 searches of January. These users searched photographers by specialty 1,635 times (a +18.1% increase), by location 3,576 times (a +4.2% increase), by date 1,941 times (+16.7%), and by name 2,001 times (+42%!).
What a difference 1,544 fewer users can make!
Users clicked on websites +24.4% more in February (5,904) than in the previous 28-day period (4,746). They visited photographers’ Instagrams +18.4% more (1093 > 923). However, he visited LinkedIn profiles a whopping +54.2% more times (418 > 271). Bios were clicked on 519 times, as opposed to the 515 times of January 4–31. A slight +.8% increase.
Strangely, amidst all of these sometimes mind-blowing gains, there are drops. Like the number of times users clicked on email links. They actually emailed photographers -42% fewer times (268 < 462) than in January.
Most of our users were from the United States, followed by India, and then by the United Kingdom. Most of the users visited our website while they were geographically located in the cities of New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, London, and Chicago.
As a whole, over February the blogs received 13,245 pageviews, a -8.3% decrease over the 14,441 pageviews of the previous period.
Wonderful Machine has two different blogs. The first, called Intel, is designed to provide information germane to the business of being a commercial or editorial photographer. The second, called Published, promotes recent projects (that were either published or used commercially) by our member photographers.
