The month of May seems to be very consistent as far as traffic and performance are concerned with most metrics very close to their historical levels, with notable exceptions due to continuing trends on photographer profile views and shifting traffic between the Wonderful Machine blogs. Total Users were essentially unchanged with 13,765 (compared with 13,858 last year) and 18,864 sessions (18,910 last year).
Once again, the majority of traffic came from the United States, with the UK, India, Canada, and Australia rounding out the top 5.
We did see a significant decrease in photographer profile views (13,776 vs 16,325 last year), but search results and individual profile clickthroughs have remained essentially unchanged, which translates to an actual increase in clickthrough rate (53% vs 38% last year). This is a continuation of a rising trend in clickthrough rates from last month (42% click-through).
We have seen a few changes to the Wonderful Machine blog that may have contributed to lower total blog views vs. last year and vs. last month. We have lowered the blog cadence, with a maximum of four posts per week instead of the previous rate of ten per week, and have focused on adding additional contextual information to increase readability and SEO value, especially for the Tearsheet posts. Despite the 60% reduction in content cadence, we are only seeing a ~32% reduction in overall traffic vs. last month, and we are optimistic that these changes will create lasting effects in the visibility of blog content and increase readership over time.
The Member Blog continues to see increased traffic due to evergreen articles like Expert Advice: The Photographer’s Bio (3,014 views), Expert Advice: Finding a Rep (645 views), and our recent case study Brand Identity: Adding a Personal Touch for Bryan Meltz (315 views).
