Antti Karppinen is a digital artist, photographer and retoucher from Finland who loves to “build the visual experience” and is constantly coming out with new and interesting projects.
His most recent undertaking involves a certain lovable pirate we’ve all come to know: Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) from Pirates of the Caribbean. When Antti saw a youtube video featuring Terry Cooper, Jack Sparrow impersonator, he knew he had to capture him.
After a few months of coordinating, Antti and Terry set up a time for the shoot, which took place in Antti’s garage.
As you can see from the set in the below photos, Antti doesn’t need much space to make the magic happen:
“Setup was basically two light setups with a bit of gels to get that right mood for the images straight from the camera. I used a Canon 5D MK II frame with 24-105 4L lens. My flashes are Godox Witstro 360 bare-bulb flashes, another flash with an umbrella to the back to give bit of kick/edgelight (with gel), and the main light with bigger octabox on the front. So, in a way I also want to show that you don’t need $10,000 worth of gear and lights to make great pictures. It’s about the idea and execution with what you have.”
