A couple of months ago, I wrote about my efforts to eliminate a number of bots from China and Russia that were skewing our analytics. It looks like I was successful in that effort—you’ll see that China (which was listed at number four last month due to an unfortunate number of referral bots) is completely off the top ten list, leaving room for the genuine clicks to show up. Russia is still in the top five, but after digging deeper into the analytics, I was able to confirm that most of those clicks were, in fact, genuine and not from bots. Check out the screenshot of our August clicks from Russia below. You can tell the difference between bots and real people by looking at the bounce rate—bots typically show up with a 100% bounce rate and a very short session duration.
