Bryan Regan: 50 Shades of Food

BY Wonderful Machine 12 February 2015
Published, Photographer Spotlight

Brace yourselves for this one. We’re kicking off Valentine’s Day weekend early with some torturous images from Bryan Regan, a Raleigh, North Carolina-based commercial, editorial, and food photographer who recently took a page out of E.L. James’ bestselling book trilogy 50 Shades of Grey.

Contrary to James’ books, which focus on an alluring business man named Christian Grey and the kinky sexual relations he has with a young lover, Bryan chose a much more interesting subject for S&M: food. (Isn’t food everyone’s real true love?) After seeing some food bondage images by Kyle Dreier, Bryan figured why not “kink it up a bit” with some different props and types of fruit. And 50 Shades of Food was created.

Kinda funny walking through the supermarket looking at food and thinking about what you could do with it. I told some friends about the project and asked for ideas and some lent me some props.

The result certainly makes you look twice. Bryan shot everything on a white background with two soft boxes and a backlight. And as far as the research involved… he put it simply: “I could never run for public office after all the websites I’ve visited and products I’ve ordered.”
