Located at the tip of Cape Fear off the coast of North Carolina lies Bald Head Island; a picturesque remote village popular for both tourists and sea turtles. C2 Photography duo Chris Council & Emily Chaplin had photographed on Bald Head Island a few years ago for a magazine assignment, and they frequently license those images to the Bald Head Island LLC for various uses. Recently, Bald Head Island worked with BrandPlace agency and C2 to create new imagery for an upcoming print ad campaign.
The goal of the campaign was to create fresh lifestyle imagery that celebrated the expansive natural environment, character, and sense of place unique to Bald Head Island, while embodying a carefree and unencumbered attitude.
The client handled talent casting and styling, and C2 collaborated with BrandPlace Creative Director Christi Golder and Art Director Jeff Harrison before the shoot to plan logistics and finalize the creative approach. The primary challenge, which is often the case with outdoor shoots, was the weather. The team learned that a storm had been forecasted only two days before the shoot. This would not only hamper their ability to shoot, but also completely ruin what was supposed to be a sunny, carefree image aesthetic.
We struggled with deciding whether or not to postpone the shoot entirely to another month. We ended up deciding to risk it, knowing that the weather forecasts on the coast are often susceptible to last-minute changes.
Fortunately for Chris and Emily, the weather cooperated with a few windows of blue sky and sunshine. The team adapted and acted quickly, taking advantage of the small windows Mother Nature gave them. They were ultimately able to accomplish the shots they set out to capture.
The clients were thrilled with the photographs, and they ran full-page in-print ads in Garden & Gun Magazine as well as local and regional publications.
Without a doubt, our favorite part of the project was being and photographing in this spectacular place on the coast! We live in the mountains, so always relish the opportunity to photograph in the beautiful sunrise and sunset light of the coast.
