by Asad Haider
Dear Wonderful Machine readers, I have some news—and it’s both sad and exciting. Though I have immensely enjoyed providing you with commentary on the world of photography for the past year, I’ve also had an opportunity that I can’t pass up. This summer, I’ll be heading west to U.C. Santa Cruz to start a PhD program in their History of Consciousness Department. (If you’d like to understand what on earth I’ll be studying, the Wikipedia page isn’t bad; and yes, it means an eventual job as an academic.) Unfortunately, I’ll be needing a little bit of extra time to do this, more than I can spare while scouring the internet for the latest trends in photography. So tomorrow marks my final blog entry for Wonderful Machine, in the form of a tragicomic weekend links post.
But don’t worry—my departure does not spell the end of the blog. Stepping up to breathe new life into our online presence is Maria Luci, who can apply all her experience as a producer—working every day with photographers, getting together with clients to help them expand their rosters—to giving the blog a fresh perspective. You’ve already read her writing in the portfolio review diaries (and I hear there will be some more next week).
I asked Maria to introduce herself to the blog audience. Take it away, Maria:
If we haven’t already been introduced, I’m a producer here at Wonderful Machine. My normal activities involve assisting in production and estimation, planning and hosting our portfolio events, promoting our photographers and marketing consulting. As a producer you have to wear a lot of hats, so for now I’ll be wearing the hat of of Publicity Director, picking up where Asad left off. I’ll be connecting more frequently with our photographers, writing our daily blog post as well as reaching out to industry professionals. This means that I’m looking forward to your feedback, whether you’re an art buyer, a photographer, or another photoblogger!
