Richmond, Virginia-based portrait and lifestyle photographer Cade Martin describes his photographic style as “cinematic,” which certainly falls in line with his most recent editorial fashion project “Private Eyes” for Genlux. Cade had been in touch with Genlux creative director Stephen Kamifuji for the past year and finally decided to harness his love for old film noirs through this shoot.
The project was photographed in Harlem over one day and into the night, with locations scouted beforehand. The only challenge for Cade was when the generator caught fire (a first for him!), luckily they were able to hot-wire a street lamp to power up the lights. “The last shot was the tunnel image and we finished that one right around midnight. It was a real fun shoot,” he said.
Cade is pleased with the outcome of the project:
As always, we had a great team and I always love collaborating with people. The act of creating images has always been my favorite part. The images are are currently in print and online and, so far, the project has been well received. What did I learn from this project? That you can hot-wire street lights.
