After working together on various projects for Eagle Creek over the last year, Creative Director Ben Raines approached San Diego-based photographer David Troyer to discuss a campaign for their new product line. They wanted to create a local shoot that would give their brand international appeal and use the images in their digital and print marketing platforms.
Eagle Creek was founded in the San Jacinto Mountains, California by Steve and Nona Barker. Steve and Nona previously ran a retail store called Mountain People before deciding to focus their efforts on helping travelers be better prepared and have greater experiences. They created Eagle Creek to address all the packing needs of a traveler, starting with the bag itself and including organizers and accessories to optimize the use of their products.
The new product line will be launched in Spring and is called “Converge.” The line is geared towards young professionals on-the-go. It includes a messenger bag, an overnight bag, and a carry-on bag, as well as all the necessary accessories.
Before the shoot, there was a lot of talking and planning between David and Ben to make sure they would capture the right vibe for the shoot. They decided on a two-day shoot in two separate locations.
We decided to do one urban day in Downtown San Diego and one day in the nearby mountain town of Idylwild. We wanted to show that you can go from work to play with the “converge” line.
The shoot went off without a hitch, and they had beautiful weather both days. Except for a speeding ticket on the way to the first shoot, they could travel from one location to the next seamlessly (and quickly!).
The city itself requires no permits while shooting anywhere in the city on public or city property, but the transit cops seem to be ticket happy!
Although there are currently no future plans for this project, all the images were very well-received by Eagle Creek. They’ve heard nothing but positive reviews from retailers and shows where the photos have been featured.
Working with this crew is always fun and rewarding! We seem to always have a great time and make good work together!
