Design: Moving Mountains with Christopher Beauchamp

BY Wonderful Machine 31 December 2013
Intel, Case Studies, Design, Logos & Wordmarks

Christopher Beauchamp was looking for a new wordmark to go along with his fresh web edit. He was seeking a design that would have a broader appeal to editorial buyers in both the sports and outdoor lifestyle specialty, as well as environmental portraiture.

The wordmark Chris was using at the time didn’t look like it was reaching that audience at all, as it was generic and forgettable. It was also unclear whether his initials said “CD” or “CB.”

After I asked Chris a few branding questions to get a better sense of what he wanted, I came up with this first round.

Chris was fond of the circular logo but didn’t quite understand having the “CB” in the middle, so we tried to find something to better represent his work. After a few rounds of ideas I came up with the idea of using mountains–a universal sign for outdoor activity. I gave Chris three small, but significant variations of the mountain design.

After Chris made his selection, we rounded out the process by adding some color and another line of “stills + motion”

We’ve now moved onto implementation of his new logo on his website and designing some new emailers and print mailers.
