Dom Savini recently went along with a former professor and mentor, John J. Weiss, for a workshop in Havana, Cuba. While Dom was there, he put all of his energy into documenting everything from the people to their environment and the sheer poverty they are faced with every day:
The most challenging thing about Cuba is the sheer poverty. Seeing people who were just happy to receive soap, shampoo and candy was very humbling. Another part was overcoming the language barrier. My Spanish definitely has a limit, but I just asked people I know how to say certain phrases and worked through it.
The photos he came away with really speak volumes about the character of the people of Cuba. He mainly focused on street people, sports and automobiles.
Dom has mostly used the images for promotion and on his Facebook page. For more of his work, visit domsavini.com.
