A men’s clothing store called Sharply has just launched in Seattle, and with them is a fresh set of images from Dylan Priest. Hey, Advertising brought Dylan in to discuss Sharply after they saw some of his work with American Eagle. They wanted his ideas on a lifestyle clothing shoot, and after a few discussions about the project, they brought him on board.
The brand boasts a relaxed, just-the-basics feel to its products, so Dylan wanted to be sure to create a laid-back set that would fit the vibe of the company. He had a live casting with models to be sure he was getting talent who would fit the brand.
My goal with the images was to convey a sense that these were clothes for a guy who doesn’t want to worry too much about what he’s wearing but still wants to look good. It’s a laid-back and fun style.
Because they wanted easy, cool photos, Dylan and the team made sure to keep fun and loose on the set. They didn’t want the photos to look overly staged so they moved constantly and kept active.
It’s important that the models look and feel relaxed so we can capture that feeling in the images.
The biggest challenge for this shoot was that it was scheduled for outdoors in Seattle in February. Of course, rain is always on the forecast in Seattle, so they planned backup shots at indoor locations. A surprise to everyone, their first day on set brought nothing but sun, so they spent the shoot fully outdoors. They shot some of the looks on the roof of their planned indoor location. These outdoor looks wound up really completing the easygoing look they were going for.
