Elephants at the Waffle House

BY Wonderful Machine 14 November 2008
Published, Photographer Spotlight

Whenever you need images of elephants at the Waffle House or pet tigers being walked down Main Street, Columbia, SC photographer James Quantz Jr. is your man.

Photo by James Quantz Jr. of three elephants looking into the windows of a Waffle House at night.
Photo of a stylish woman walking a tiger on a leash down the sidewalk of a cosmopolitan street.
Photo of a photographer sitting on a raft with a light and a camera.

Though traditionally a sports photographer, James found that art buyers were increasingly interested in seeing his more conceptual animal and people photography. Surprisingly, James does not use stock photography and shoots each element with the final image in mind.

Quantz is featured in this month’s AfterCapture magazine, which goes into depth about a few of the images above (the killer whale’s actually a plastic toy!), and also shows the complex compositing that goes into his work.

Check out more of James Quantz Jr.’s work on his website.
