Emailer: Assembling a MailChimp Template for Clay Cook

BY Wonderful Machine 14 December 2015

Recently, I had the pleasure of working with Clay Cook, one of our talented member photographers from Louisville, Kentucky. Clay shoots primarily fashion and beauty. He came to us looking for help creating an emailer template to keep his subscribers in the loop on his work. Because Clay already had a number of subscribers, he had no need for a prospect list service like Agency Access, and could simply use an email management system—in this case, MailChimp.

If you want to learn more about the difference between MailChimp and Agency Access, check out this Expert Advice article.

Once we knew what email management system we were going to use, we dove into creating a template within MailChimp. Clay knew from the get-go that he wanted to include certain content split into sections. The content he knew he wanted to include was, of course, a general Hello. Furthermore, he wanted a What’s New & Next section, and a Behind the Scenes section that would include a video.

With that in mind, I started to build Clay’s new emailer template. We did a few rounds of tweaks and after that, we came to his final emailer.

One of the best parts of working with MailChimp’s email templates is that they are all designed in a series of building blocks that, when placed together, create a responsive emailer that works on any screen size, from desktop to mobile.

Here is an example of what Clay’s new emailer looks like in the desktop and mobile views.

Once Clay’s template was ready to go, he hit the ground running. He started sending out emails to update all of his subscribers.
