As Gabriel Lucido has gotten busier and busier shooting assignments, he has had less and less time to actively promote his photography business. Gabriel lives in Los Angeles but was looking for an agent who could promote his food and beverage photography in national markets. To make sure he found the right agent, Gabriel signed up for our Find A Rep service.
As a Marketing Specialist with Wonderful Machine over the last two years, I have used my past experience as an executive producer to address photographers’ representation needs and market their work. Finding an agent is a delicate process that takes time, research, and relationship building. I’m always excited to help photographers navigate the complexities of the marketplace. Considering Gabriel’s portfolio, talent, and career goals, I was certain we would deliver favorable results.
To optimize our time and effectiveness, all of our consulting projects begin with a comprehensive questionnaire detailing the photographer’s background, marketing approach, and goals. In conjunction with detailed research of their website and social accounts, I’m able to build a foundational understanding that guides our work together.
Gabriel’s work has eye-catching color schemes and design elements that are instantly captivating. His work is sharp and controlled, with a focus on making Food/Drink products look their most appetizing. He creates an aesthetic that is highly sought after and marketable to a wide variety of clients.
During our first conversation, I learned a lot about Gabriel’s goals and expectations. He wanted to find an agent focused on food and advertising photography, whose primary geographical region was California, although he was also strongly considering New York and Chicago.
Our campaign achieved a 55% open rate and received six responses. We were very excited about the response from All Opal, who reached out to Gabriel directly to schedule a call. Another response from Nicole Lyon was particularly encouraging. She expressed admiration for Gabriel’s work and a desire to stay updated on his progress.
Overall, Gabriel was pleased and encouraged by the positive feedback he received from the agents we targeted. It affirmed his talent and established new relationships for future collaborations. The campaign recipients opened the email multiple times, and the six responses provided clear direction for Gabriel to maintain contact via email or LinkedIn. Although some agents were not adding photographers to their rosters at the time, Gabriel understood that he was planting seeds for long-term marketing.
My collaboration with Gabriel was seamless and friendly. He promptly responded to every email and was thoroughly engaged at each step of the process. Impressively, he retained all 32 of my initial company recommendations. During our final video call, we analyzed each of the six responses, and developed a plan for how Gabriel can maintain his marketing momentum moving forward. Once a project has concluded, it’s important for photographers to use the knowledge and methods we used to build continuity in their marketing output. I’m excited to see how Gabriel’s career will continue to flourish.
