Finding clients is one of the biggest challenges commercial photographers face. At Wonderful Machine, we’ve been cultivating relationships with publications, agencies, and brands for over 16 years. We’re now making that information available to photographers as part of our Premium Data subscription.
Our Clients search allows you to filter 16,580 companies by location, specialty, type, industry, and/or name. We’ve also created unique bookmarking and sharing features that you’ll find to be quite useful.
You can “Favorite” any company by simply clicking on the logo. You can then filter for your Favorites by clicking on the circle icon next to the word CLIENTS. You can combine the Favoriting filter with any of the other filters.
The circle icon dynamically filters for your Favorites, but to execute a search using the other menus, you’ll need to click the FIND button. Click the word CLIENTS to clear all the search criteria.
While the Favoriting feature allows you to keep track of a large, permanent list of clients for your own reference, you can use the “Shortlist” feature to collect a smaller, more temporary list to share with a colleague.
You can also share your list with our marketing team and they’ll provide you with the names of the people who work at those companies as part of our Client List Build service.
We have found that a lot of our photographers are interested in working for companies that are committed to social justice and environmental sustainability. So we recently started tracking B Corps. According to their website, “B Corp Certification is a designation that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials.”
Click on the B Corp logo to filter for B Corps. Click again to remove the filter. Our list of B Corps is small at the moment, but it will continue to grow.
We’re currently offering photographers access to our Clients search (along with Agents, Resources, and an expanded list of Crew) for the introductory rate of 13.00/month. Our Clients search shows companies, but not people (which we charge separately for). Photographers sometimes ask us why they have to pay separately for the contact information for the photo editors, art buyers, and creative directors who work at these companies. There are a couple of reasons for this. First is that for all of our services, we want to provide a low-cost self-service option as well as a full-service option at a higher price. This provides photographers with the flexibility to scale our services to meet their needs at any given moment. Secondly, since it’s in all of our interest to support a healthy, sustainable email marketing ecosystem, we only share email addresses that are appropriate for each individual photographer. With less spam, each email will have more impact.
That said, you’re welcome to team up with other photographers to share the cost of your list.
