I Remember You

BY Maria Luci 19 June 2013
Published, Photographer Spotlight

New York-based photographer Mimi Ko‘s imagery seems to capture a different universe than our own—a dreamier, parallel universe filled with muted colors and noirish intrigue. Her portrait and serial work blur the line between commercial and fine art photography, with each ethereal photograph inviting you to discover its mysteries. The images in Mimi’s I Remember You series advance this aesthetic, subtly leading the viewer deeper into her world.

Mimi describes the concept behind I Remember You:

This project is a series of self portraits that I’ve been experimenting with. Sometimes the image is inspired by a phrase from a book, or a line from a play, but these only serve as jumping-off points; I do not intend to literally illustrate a scene. There is a narrative that is hinted at, but what I’m most interested in is exploring moods, light and color. This project is ongoing, and I will continue to add to the series, but the images also stand on their own. I am honored that several have already been selected to be exhibited in group shows.
