Austin-based lifestyle photographer Inti St. Clair is comfortable working with children of all ages. Her infectious laugh and lively energy can’t help but elicit genuine smiles from the talented tykes she often works with. In a recent assignment for Arm & Hammer, Inti captured the messy and memorable moments that parents share with their curious kids when tending to their clothes.
The client hired Inti to capture still images alongside a video filming for their “Inspired by You” advertising campaign focused on promoting Arm & Hammer’s Clean & Simple Laundry detergent. This new campaign would aid the company in speaking about what laundry products are safer for families and children with sensitive skin.
Inti is no stranger to these types of settings and has perfected her part in working with a big team on a commercial production. She enjoys working alongside other creatives to establish a cohesive feel between the videos and images.
Broadcast sets are always bigger than stills only sets, and it’s fun to see everyone working so well together to make it all happen.
While Inti is experienced working among a large crew, this often meant she had limited time with the talent themselves. After only a few minutes to focus on straight-on portraits and stills, Inti spent the rest of her time working around the videography crew capturing images while they were rolling.
The biggest challenge to this type of job is having limited time to shoot. The TV video team often takes up to two hours to capture a scene that I get 5 minutes to do!
Before shooting, Inti talked with the creative team about creating a few sets separate from the video crew to provide the client with a variety of portrait and product images. She needed to stage the children making some messes to warrant the use of the detergent, but also wanted to capture the quiet moment of a mom and daughter folding their laundry together. And to ensure she featured the kids in their moment, Inti got close to the ground to capture them at eye level.
One of the things I appreciate the most about working on a broadcast set is that the talent is experienced, which makes it much easier to nail the shots I need with the limited time I have.
When working on large-scale productions like these, Inti is a capable photographer who can work within the limitations of time and access to talent. She knows how to keep the atmosphere light and comfortable and doesn’t waste a second when engaging with kids. Her experience in working with families enables Inti to capture the joy children create during even the simplest of everyday activities.
