Progressive flip flop company FeelGoodz recently contacted Raleigh-based photographer Jillian Clark about creating a series of photos to be used on their website for targeted social media ads, email blasts, and some in-store promos.
Being a fan of the brand and excited at the prospect of some work/fun in the sun, Jillian agreed.
The flip-flop maker wanted to refresh their branding through new social media campaigns, email blasts and in-store promo materials that included lifestyle imagery that reflected their personality of excitement, curiosity, and adventure.
Before the shoot, Jillian had a number of meetings with the owner and graphic designer for FeelGoodz. Together, the group talked about FeelGoodz’s needs and bounced around ideas about how to achieve them. Later on, the meetings became more detailed and focused on coming up with a shot list and finding appropriate models.
The client wanted to create a travel/destination vibe locally, so Jillian and FeelGoodz decided to have the shoot on Bald Head Island in North Carolina. The most difficult part of planning the shoot turned out to be the location scouting. They arrived at Bald Head a day early to begin their search.
We had to discern that day which locations would work for the different feelings the client wanted. The island is extremely diverse in terms of scenery and plant life, and all the beach accesses look different, so it was a full day of scouting to find locations that would work for our needs.
Since the island is extremely diverse, regarding scenery and plant life, it was challenging to determine which location would work for each shot. Fortunately, Jillian had access to a golf cart and was able to drive it all the way around the island to find the best sites. From there, she only had to figure out what time of day would provide the best lighting for each location.
No cars were allowed on the island, so there were only golf carts and bicycles. This gave the whole experience a fun, close-knit vibe. The many natural areas of the island also gave Jillian many beautiful locations to choose from so she could create just the right tone in her images.
Jillian had a blast! She even went so far as to liken the job to a vacation.
Waking up at 6 am & working until sunset isn’t too bad when the location is a paradise!
FeelGoodz couldn’t be happier with what Jillian came up with, and she’s quite proud of the photos herself.
The client will be using the images throughout this coming year in their marketing. FeelGoodz also loved the pictures so much that they’re already using the photos on their website. Check it out!
