Christopher Lane: Living History

BY Wonderful Machine 24 January 2014
Published, Photographer Spotlight

The Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps. One of the US Army’s premier musical organizations, this brigade is living history. The corps has inspired audiences throughout the nation since 1960 while carrying on traditions that accompanied the birth of our nation. Based in Arlington’s Fort Myer, the group recreates traditions of the American Revolution- era army. Recently, New York-based documentary and portrait photographer Christopher Lane caught up with the redcoats for a feature in Washingtonian Magazine.

Although it took a few visits, Christopher got the shots he wanted:

My first shoot with the brigade was a lot of fun. (For the army we were able to clown around a bit.) Unfortunately the weather was really bad and going outdoors wasn’t on the books. However, the Washingtonian wanted me to go back and shoot on a good day while also getting the new commander in charge!
