Winston-Salem, North Carolina-based photographer Liz Nemeth recently photographed a story about the Mrs. Hanes Moravian Cookie factory for Good Grit Magazine. The Mrs. Hanes business handmakes all of their cookies, ships them to all 50 states and over 30 foreign countries, and has even been featured by Oprah! Liz was given the job of photographing both the cookie creator herself as well as the deliciously thin and delightfully crispy Moravian cookies.
Here were Liz’s thoughts on this tasty shoot:
There were two big challenges that I faced, the first being that the factory has no natural light – just fluorescent lighting. The second is that Mrs. Hanes is in her 80’s with a sore hip. I ended up taking a few different portraits of Mrs. Hanes and worked to capture all the angles I could of the factory itself. I never want to leave a job and think that I missed a shot! I love the shot they used of Mrs. Hanes on the bakery floor with her hair net. I also brought cookies back to my studio and took a bunch of pictures of them, with natural light – with lots of sampling in between.
