Salt Lake City, Utah-based photographer Louis Arevalo‘s photo was recently featured as the cover image for the buyer’s guide of Freeskier Magazine. To capture this image, Louis shot on location with former olympian Kaylin Richardson, who he has worked with for the past several winters. They made plans to take advantage of fresh snow fall the day before an expected snowstorm of ten inches—but it snowed several inches more, putting some roadblocks in their way—including closed canyons and mountain traffic. Despite the delays, the fresh layer of snow ended up providing them with a beautiful, natural set.
The morning of the shoot we were excited to learn the overnight snow totals were 14-16 Inches! Unfortunately the canyon leading to Alta was closed for avalanche control…We sat in traffic for three hours before arriving to full parking lots at Brighton Resort, then ended up parking up a spur road and walking the extra distance to the marketing office. It was 11:15 AM by the time we finally sat on the lift. Despite all of that, we ended up finding plenty of untracked snow to work with and landed this image in one of the first set ups.
Beyond the publication of this tear, Brighton Resort, the location of Louis’s shoot, has also licensed this image to be used on their tickets for the upcoming season.
