Ten years ago, Chicago-based photographer and director Jason Lindsey fell in love with photographing ranches while living in North Dakota. He recently revisited this subject with the people of Paradise Valley, Montana, coming away with an authentic and relatable series:
I have always been attracted to the landscape of Montana but really wanted to focus on the people and their interaction with the landscape. It was a true pleasure meeting all these amazing people that let me into their lives for a as little as few minutes to up to a few hours.
Jason shot the entire project on his own with just one camera and three lenses, saying that although this was challenging it was also the fun of it. He shot from sunrise to sunset for about a week.
Jason has received a positive reaction to the images across the board, saying that they “took on a life of their own”:
It was a very refreshing week to charge the batteries and play. Play is such an important part of the creative process. I am continually reminded of it’s value. I always get more creative work when I play with a camera in my hands. I was also reminded of what a great thing it is to do something you are passionate about. The ranchers I photographed are all so passionate about the life they live. It’s very nice to be around passionate people.
