Visit Napa Valley, where winding roads, breathtaking vistas, and blissful vineyards come together, forming beautiful scenes that are abundant and ripe for the picking. Brand Narrative photographer Myles McGuinness had the pleasure of photographing these vineyards for Visit Napa Valley as part of their “Legendary Moment” campaign.
The “Legendary Moment” project was a commission to tell the story of iconic Napa Valley through experiences showcasing the area as America’s premier wine, food, arts, and wellness destination. Myles had been able to shoot in Napa Valley quite a bit in the past and was eager to work there again.
Red Hydrant Productions and the agency, Mering Carson, did most of the preproduction and planning behind the scenes, leaving Myles to focus on the logistics of capturing the images. He wanted to concentrate on key moments based on the client’s story and mood boards, such as a couple sharing breakfast in bed, a group of friends enjoying wine and lunch, and driving down the beautiful vineyard roads lined with grapevines.
The idea was to make the most of the locations and talent over a two-day period, capturing both motion & stills. The video aspect was headed up by FLF Films with whom I’ve had the chance to work with in the past, and I led in capturing the stills for the print advertising campaign, web and social media.
Working with a video production team is always a challenge, as everyone has to work in perfect balance in order to accomplish all the shots within a tight timeframe. Fortunately for Myles, the production team was great to work with, and the talent and crew meshed together perfectly, letting everyone come together to tell an amazing story. The biggest hiccup of the shoot was when Myles was on the receiving end of a red light ticket at 4 AM on his way to the first shoot location! Otherwise, the shoot went smoothly and Myles was able to depict bright, authentic scenarios while capturing the colorful yet rustic aesthetic of California wine country.
With dynamic light, natural outdoor scenery, and authentic talent, Myles was able to produce a stunning series of photos that perfectly portrayed his style and voice. The client and agency were thrilled with the images, and the art buyers and reps he has shared the work with all had positive responses. Myles hopes to be part of the next Visit Napa Valley campaign as well.
