This past fall, Nashville-based product and food photographer Nick Bumgardner shot the product and lifestyle images for long-term client Jackson Wayne Leather Goods.
Nick first connected with Jackson Wayne five years ago when he was leading a product photographer workshop. He was trying to source products from companies local to Nashville to use in the workshop when he stumbled on Jackson Wayne’s Instagram and reached out to make a connection.
Andrew Lynch, the owner, sent me a few things to have my workshop participants photograph. After the workshop, I took the products back to my studio and spent a morning photographing them as a thank you. Andrew and I hit things off pretty well and have been working together ever since.
Andrew is constantly refining his lineup of products. A lot of the products on his site have gone through several iterations.
Whenever changes to the products have accumulated, Nick and Andrew do a big overhaul of the photography so as to refresh the website. Every two years or so, they’ll do a lifestyle shoot.
For this shoot, I pitched an early fall lifestyle shoot to Andrew. We agreed to do lifestyle shots in a pretty hip downtown area. I wanted Andrew to be able to take away some new images for the website as well as for social content.
The photoshoot lasted an efficient half-day, spending the first hour using a beautiful vintage Ford Bronco as the setting, and then heading to the downtown area of Franklin, TN for the rest of the time.
I generally work with an assistant or two, but for this shoot, I opted to run solo. It was just Andrew, the model, and myself. It allowed us to move quickly.
The day was casual and relaxed; it was really just a few guys hanging out and having a good time.
The energy on set was really fun. We talked about cars, coffee, and whiskey, so I had a blast.
