Patrick Heagney: Atlanta Magazine’s Home

BY Wonderful Machine 8 October 2018
Published

Atlanta-based photographer Patrick Heagney is used to taking photos of accomplished chefs and the restaurants they run—but for this assignment with Atlanta Magazine’s Home, he was able to get to know three superb Atlantan chefs’ personalities not just through their style of cooking, but also through their sense of decor—by photographing them in their own homes.

The experience with each chef was very different.  Asha Gomez was warm and friendly, it was more like hanging out with family than a gig.  She greeted us with homemade lemonade and after the shoot extended an open invite to stop by for hot chai anytime we were in the neighborhood.  Justin Anthony and his wife were a whirlwind of energy and cooked enough food for props to feed a dozen people, and he somehow managed not to sweat at all while manning two grills in 90 degree Atlanta summer heat.  Ford Fry was the most casual. He seemed a little stiff at first but we hung out and talked about his vintage stereo equipment and our favorite summer drinks so by the time we were shooting, I don’t think he even noticed the camera being on him.
