Writer Sandy Lang and I have collaborated with Maine Magazine over the last several years to concept, write, and produce a series of location based features that highlight the best of Maine. We had met lobsterman Alex Todd on a previous assignment and thought there was a great story as he and his sons are 9th and 10th generation Maine fishermen, respectively. In addition to the personality driven piece we were able to incorporate a food/recipe element into the story that Sandy and I wrote and styled together. One of the food photographs, inspired by vintage Gourmet magazine covers, was chosen for the cover.
