You may have come across Ketchum, Idaho-based photographer Hillary Maybery‘s name before on our blog. She’s worked with our designer, Melissa, on a logo, website, and business cards, and her sweet personality has won us all over. Her emails are always positive and upbeat, and we can’t help but smile when we see her name in our inbox.
To bring you up to speed, Hillary has been working with our team for more than a year to transition from her retail photography business into a more commercial direction. After corresponding with her about Wonderful Machine membership, she mentioned that her next step was to create a print portfolio, and we jumped at the chance to work with her.
Hillary shoots lifestyle, fashion, and kids work, and while her website shows these three things in separate galleries, we knew combining all of them into a book would result in something that showed her skills and interests and, most importantly, was truly Hillary. The most crucial factor in doing this successfully was sequencing them in a logical way that would allow the images to flow flawlessly between the three specialties.
After looking through all of her work, we loved that she had images in all types of Idaho weather, and realized the most rational choice would be to sequence them according to seasons. We decided to start the book with the brightest, most “summery” and spring-feeling images, transition into fall photos, and end with wintery scenes. Because the content of her work is very consistent between specialties, we decided to shift our focus to color, framing, and composition when transitioning from one image to the next.
Hillary also opted to go with our Print Portfolio Production service, where we upload and order the book for her. After debating a few options for printing, we settled on AdoramaPix and got to work on ordering her new book. Melissa made an appearance again and designed the cover and information pages using Hillary’s new logos to complete the whole package.
The end result is a portfolio that shows all of Hillary’s specialties in one cohesive collection of work, and she’s very happy with it. Here’s what Hillary had to say about the final product:
Morgan, you are the BOMB! Thank you for making me feel like I am your only client and putting much effort into this book! I appreciate you supporting my insecurities at times … this has been easy, FUN, and thank you for making me look great to future clients! The cost and experience is well worth hiring WM and investing in myself!
