We began working with Birmingham, Alabama-based photographer Stephen DeVries this spring. Like most photographers in mid-sized markets, Stephen has been shooting a wide variety of content for a diverse client base. However, as Stephen’s career has progressed, he’s been moving steadily toward specialization in food and travel. We agreed to move forward with a web portfolio edit that would push Stephen’s portfolio in a more targeted direction.
Stephen had seen a great response from his existing edit, which prominently featured food and travel, as well as lifestyle, fashion, and portraits. With this edit, he hoped to reach an audience of national food and travel publications.
With new images coming in every week, Stephen supplied me with as much up-to-date work as possible, avoiding images that would not be released in time for our projected June rollout date for the new site. He included the work previously featured in lifestyle, fashion and portraiture, to see if I thought there might still be a place for it. In the end, I decided that the older work was no longer in keeping with his more specialized brand, and we opted to include only three categories: Food, Travel and Tearsheets:

Stephen was very enthusiastic about the new look and quickly implemented the changes. With the website refreshed, we are beginning work on a new print portfolio, so keep an eye out for that soon!
