Portfolio Events: April 2016 Part II

BY Wonderful Machine 4 May 2016
Intel, Published, Portfolio Event

For our April NYC meeting, Alex and I channeled our Empire State of Mind, cue Alicia Keys, as we traveled into the City of Dreams with a nice cup of joe to start the day. Our schedule consisted of meetings with KBS+P, Mediabrands, and The Wall Street Journal. Our first stop was KBS+P, BMW is one of their biggest clients, so we brought along UK photographer, Dom Romney‘s book—the striking automotive portfolio was definitely a big hit amongst the production team. They were also impressed with Rickett & Sones’ conceptual narratives, Scott Nobles’ work, and Eli Meir Kaplan’s lifestyle photographs.

Next we had our meeting with Mediabrands, they were interested in reviewing a wide range of specialties. Jonathan Chapman’s ability to capture everyday life in his cinematic narratives caught their attention for this social media driven agency.

On our way to our last meeting with The Wall Street Journal, we stopped to snap a picture of Jimmy Fallon’s studio (I got star struck just standing outside the building) and took a moment to admire the infamous St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

The WSJ team was familiar with the works of Matthew Carbone, Erin Patrice O’Brien, Ackerman + Gruber, and Marco Garcia and were thrilled to see their work in print. Matt Dutile’s travel work brought one of the photo editors back to her Euro trip, where she reminisced about standing in the same exact location as one of his beautiful cityscapes. Amber Fouts and Donna Dotan also received a lot of “oohs” and “ahhs” as the editors flipped through their portfolios, amazed by the quality of their work.

At the end of the day, the trip was a huge success and we are looking forward to our next round of meetings!
