Print Mailer: We All Scream For Wonderful Machine!

BY Wonderful Machine 30 May 2012
Intel, Wonderful Machine News, Published, Wonderful Machine News

by Peter Clark

For the month of May, we dipped into our deep-seated love for our favorite summer treat: ice cream. Shot by St. Louis photographer Ashley Gieseking and printed by our friends over at Modern Postcard, our latest promo is sure to trigger some cool cravings (and sticky fingers). Much like the famous tune performed by the 1929 Dixieland band, the Waring’s Pennsylvanians, we definitely scream for ice cream—and, in our case, amazing photography!

Ashley was nice enough to take some time away from playing with her food to fill us in on the photo:

This image was from an editorial shoot for St. Louis Magazine called “Frozen Delights.” The assignment was to photograph the area’s best frozen desserts—1 week, 5 locations, no food stylist, resulting in tons of sticky equipment! It was up to myself and art director, Danny Elchert, to capture these desserts before they melted or as it turned out…in the process of melting.

This particular shot was completely unplanned, just one of those happy accidents. We’d been taking a shot of a giant waffle cone and by the time we finished, the ice cream had melted into this colorful puddle. It just looked really cool, almost like paint, so we quickly styled a few items around it. The puddle happened organically, but we added the toppled blue cone, which is the shop’s signature flavor (cookie monster) and created a still life of all the things you’d expect to find on a kid’s placemat. It ended up being my favorite shot of the series, but too sticky for the magazine, so it didn’t make the cut.
