Francis Hills came to Wonderful Machine at a turning point in his photography career. He was looking to concentrate more on advertising and portraiture photography, particularly within the fashion and entertainment industry, and he needed to refresh the Francis Hills Photography brand.
Having recently revamped his website and logo, Francis was ready to push his marketing to the next level with print and email promotional materials. To create these pieces, we first had an in-depth conversation about what he wanted to achieve with his marketing: clean and sophisticated designs to match the simplicity of his new branding.
Over the next few weeks, we collaborated with Francis on the design process. We started by pulling inspiration together so we could be sure our visions were aligned. Once we felt we had nailed the vision, we got to the fun part: design.
While we worked on a few layout options for the print mailer, Francis also worked closely with Honore Brown to make the photo selections for his marketing. Once the layouts were created, we dropped in the photos Francis and Honore had carefully curated, and the design began to come to life.
After the mailer was sent to print, we moved on to engaging Francis’ online audience by designing an emailer. This process was similar to the one for the print mailer design. We started by pulling some inspiration and creating rough layouts. Francis and Honore worked closely again to select images and to write the copy for the email marketing campaign.
After a few rounds of revisions, we dropped in the final copy and imagery. After the design process was complete, we set up a template in MailChimp (ultimately Francis used FloGo), and the marketing consulting team assisted Francis in setting up his mailing list so his email marketing could reach the right audience. When the project was complete, we gave both the emailer and the design template to Francis so he could easily update the images and content for future email marketing campaigns.
It has been exciting being part of the process to inject new energy and polish into his brand. Francis was also pleased with the results:
Lyndsey was a great help and we quickly decided on a large mailer to make a strong impact, the Sumo trifold from Modern Postcard. Her layout allowed for the images to breathe on the card and not overwhelm it. It’s very easy to cram too much in on promotional material and Lyndsey balanced a strong design that allowed for a variety of images without it feeling crowded or fussy. We’re excited to share it!
