I recently had the opportunity to work with Switzerland-based product, food/drink, and beauty photographer Quentin Décaillet on a Find a Rep campaign. He had been aware of our various consulting services for a few years and came to us when he had the need.
Quentin has a large body of work and has worked with brands like MAC Cosmetics and Nespresso, but felt it was time to grow his business to the next level. He approached us about looking for an agent who could help him expand his clientele in product, beauty, and food/drink photography. Having an agent would support him in organizing and quoting projects and bring him closer to connecting with the brands he aspires to work with. As I have been working in agent outreach for some time, I felt confident and excited to take this on.
I’ve loved Quentin’s work since the first time I saw his beauty portfolio. He’s a true artist — he dares to explore texture, color, art, and technology without fear of overwhelming the natural beauty of the subject. In talking to him, I discovered that his attention to detail came from growing up around nature, noticing the intricacies of a single leaf or flower bloom.
Working with Quentin was a lovely process. He is kind, comfortable to talk to, and his clear vision helped me easily compile a list of potential agents to reach out to. Because Switzerland and the surrounding countries have a strong beauty industry, we primarily focused on that region of Europe, while still looking for opportunities in North America.
I worked on a targeted list of approximately 25 reps and Quentin worked on compositions for each of his specialties. In Spanish, we have a saying: “Una imagen vale más que mil palabras” (A picture is worth a thousand words) and I knew many would be attracted to Quentin’s creativity. In the end, Quentin created six different comps — beauty commercial, beauty creative, beverage and food, cosmetics and perfume, plants, watches, and jewelry.
Quentin received eight responses to the email campaign, two of which offered to reach out for future briefs. We also established a connection to VisualEyes Zurich, a production company that had been at the top of Quentin’s list of desired agencies. He was enthusiastic about the news of the connection:
That’s fantastic news. They were in my top 5 agencies on the list!
The meeting went well. VisualEyes mentioned they are redesigning their website in the next couple of months, at which point they will be reconsidering their roster of photographers. If a place opens up at that time, they said they would be happy to consider adding Quentin.
Connecting with an agency from his own country was the best possible outcome. Throughout the whole process, Quentin was enthusiastic and confident we would find him a rep, and it was very satisfying to see the campaign pay off.
