Düsseldorf, Germany-based photographer Rüdiger Nehmzow was recently hired by Esco, one of Europe’s largest salt mining companies, to document the work they do hundreds of meters underground. Rudiger found out about the job through Realgestalt, a Berlin-based agency for Corporate Identity and Branding. Choosing the right equipment for this salt-heavy, dusty environment was a challenge, especially when using it while 800 meters underground, but Rüdiger was able to produce these beautiful photos.
Cameras usually don’t like salt—here, it’s just everywhere. Working in a mine is always a challenge—you have to like it.
