Robb Reece: Relocating in Grand Junction

Lifestyle, Outdoor/Adventure Published, Photographer Spotlight

Grand Junction-based photographer Robb Reece recently completed a personal photography project that got picked up by Relocating Magazine, a regional magazine in Western Colorado.

Robb started the self-assigned shoot as a stock project, with the goal of promoting local recreation opportunities, healthy lifestyles, and the expanding urban trail system in Western Colorado. The ongoing rejuvenation project along the Colorado River made a perfect lifestyle atmosphere for Robb’s images. His overall goal was to shoot subjects he loves, while simultaneously involving current events and ideas of public or community interest.

Preproduction of the shoot was fairly straight forward for Robb. The most time-consuming planning involved coordinating logistical details like talent, weather, and location.

The only concern Robb had was not having an assistant for the day. However, since he had plenty of previous experience shooting solo, he was able to pack minimal gear and travel light. Robb also enjoyed the challenge of taking on multiple roles, creative director, producer, and photographer, for the project.

The reaction to the images has been very positive. Robb is happy that his work could help sell an important message to the public. His favorite part of the project was being outside in the sun with the talent. As far as pursuing the future continuation of this project, Robb will keep photographing different areas of recreation and age groups connected to this project.

This is a great venue for creativeness and multiple shoots. This area of Colorado is becoming a huge center for an outdoor lifestyle which makes it a huge plus for the economy.

It was a bonus for Robb to be able to photograph what he loves and have it published for a good cause. He thanks the editor and publisher of Relocating Magazine, Brook Calhoon – and the talented models: Tess Skoe and Austin Roberts – for a great experience with the project.
