Rocco Ceselin: Domaine de Cromey

BY Molly Glynn 23 January 2018
Published, Photographer Spotlight

Rocco Ceselin took a break from Los Angeles this past September to return to his European roots to photograph Domaine de Cromey in Burgundy, France. The winery and chateau, nestled in the heart of France, hired Rocco for his travel expertise to create new content for their website and social media.

The client wanted to create a sort of story of the Burgundy lifestyle; their relationship with the vintners, people, and the territory.

After a stay in Italy, Rocco set off to Lyon, and from there traveled to Burgundy to find himself in the capable hands of a driver from the “Domaine de Cromey” family, who served as his guide for the week. Since his French is a little rusty, Rocco was happy to have someone at his side to introduce him to some of his subjects and help him navigate the area.

Despite the area’s ever-changing weather, Rocco found shelter from the storms and optimized his time in the vineyards. After all, he had only a week to capture every aspect of life at Domaine de Cromey: the house itself, current visitors, workers, and the entire wine-making process from the first plant to the last pour.

It was a constant discovery. I was able to drive around the countryside and discover every day new incredible places; underground cellars, older winemakers who proudly showed me their winery secrets. I hiked on the hills to find the perfect spots to shoot the countryside and meet the workers in the vineyards.

In addition to stills, Rocco produced a short video introducing the public to a place known for its rolling hills, incredible wine, and family experience. Rocco took his time and enjoyed getting to know the area.

Discovering beautiful little small towns around was really a treat. Most of them look like they come straight from a fairytale book.

Not quite ready for the magic to end, Rocco spent his final day in France exploring Lyon, known to be France’s food capital.

I wanted to be a tourist for a little and feel the atmosphere of a bigger city. The European lifestyle is always something I miss.

The client loved the results of the project, and Rocco is already planning his return to the region to follow up with Domaine de Cromey and see more of what Burgundy has to offer.
