Robert Rausch is an Alabama-based photographer whose work captures pristine landscapes and compelling architectural designs. On his website, you’ll find projects that range from quiet, introspective natural scenes to dynamic urban settings. Robert’s expertise extends into travel photography, food, fashion, and lifestyle, and his clients range from William Sonoma and The Citizens of Humanity jeans to The New York Times and Southern Living. Above all, Robert loves telling stories with his photographs.
Though Robert gets a steady stream of customers through word-of-mouth, he began to wonder why he wasn’t getting more inquiries through his website, so he decided he needed a comprehensive SEO Audit. For this audit, I collaborated with our other SEO specialist Mate Mikulandra to review Robert’s website’s current SEO situation, and to offer suggestions about how he could improve its overall digital visibility.
Our SEO Audit includes an in-depth review of a photographer’s website. We present the results in a report, which highlights our recommendations for improvement. This is followed by a video consultation to discuss those recommendations, which photographers can then implement themselves or with us as a part of our SEO Implementation service.
When we analyzed Robert’s website, it became apparent that, like many photographers, Robert had focused intensely on showcasing his images while neglecting textual content. This common oversight can significantly impact search engine visibility since search engines rely heavily on text to index and rank pages.
Our first step was to address the issue with the website’s structural elements. The site suffered from an overuse of H1 tags and lacked clear, optimized meta titles and descriptions. These are vital for telling search engines and users alike what each page is about. Robert had an excessive amount of H1 tags on the website, which confused search engines. As a result, his home page did not show up properly in searches.
We recommended consolidating H1 tags and creating distinct, descriptive meta titles, and descriptions that reflect Robert’s main photographic specialties while including relevant geographical keywords to attract local searches.
Furthermore, we noticed that Robert was not using proper image filenames and alt tags. These elements are crucial for image SEO, as they help search engines understand and categorize content effectively, especially for photographers who rely on graphic content instead of text on the website.
Our SEO audit identified several other critical areas for improvement, such as increasing the text content on key pages and optimizing URL structures. Although these tasks are less about images and more about the underlying framework of the site, they are essential for building a strong SEO foundation.
Our SEO Audit for Robert Rausch successfully identified the critical areas to improve his SEO. It helped create for him a strong foundation to build on as he continues to improve his website’s SEO ranking. We’re thrilled to continue working with Robert on an SEO Implementation, as well as an additional project for another website.
An SEO Audit helps to identify technical and content-related issues on a website that could affect its performance in search engine rankings. Without addressing underlying issues, any further SEO efforts, such as content creation or link building, may not achieve their intended impact. These root causes can significantly diminish the effectiveness of SEO strategies and make it difficult for even optimized content to rank well.
