Cencora, formerly AmerisourceBergen, recently launched their new brand and needed new visual content representing their European footprint. We helped them identify the perfect photographer and manage a large production in Barcelona to generate both stills and video in a wide variety of locations throughout the city.
Our relationship with AmerisourceBergen dates back to 2015 when we coordinated a series of productions promoting their pharmaceutical distribution services. Since then, they have grown to be one of the largest corporations in the US. Their recent acquisition of Alliance Healthcare in Europe sparked a new project as they were about to change their name and launch a new brand. Now named Cencora, the brand worked with MetaDesign to develop a new website, and we were tasked with generating new content for their website and for future use in various marketing materials.
We recommended a handful of photographers based throughout Europe, ultimately landing on Anatol Gottfried in Barcelona, Spain. His style was very on-point based on the creative brief, and Barcelona is known for both older gothic-style environments and new modern locations, all of which could offer a generic “European” vibe. Throughout the bidding process, we ultimately landed on what would be a 10-day production including travel, scouting, and shoot days.
Through Anatol, we connected with Sonda Productions and collaborated with them to coordinate crew and logistics locally. Before we knew it, the team traveled from around the world to Barcelona. The agency and client traveled from Dallas and Berlin, while I came from Philadelphia.
We started by tech/scouting the pre-determined locations, including Cencora’s distribution facility just outside of Barcelona in Viladecans, as well as a wide variety of parks, streets, pharmacies, and other locations within Barcelona. Our pre-production days culminated in a wardrobe fitting day at Costume – The Stylist Room. This is where we were able to meet all of the talent who we’d be working with throughout the upcoming week and work with our wardrobe stylist Mafer Navas.
Our first shoot day was at Cencora’s distribution center, where we captured stills and video of their employees at work, both in corporate meetings and in warehouse shipping/distribution environments. We worked out the kinks capturing both types of content simultaneously to ensure smooth sailing throughout the week on additional shoot days.
Our next few shoot days brought us to nine different locations in the neighborhoods of Barcelona. Fueled up on espresso and baguettes, our large team moved from location to location each day, capturing a rotating collection of talent interacting in a variety of lifestyle scenarios and environments.
We rented a storefront from a company called Manual Thinking and shot there on two separate days. The store is used by the company as a creative brainstorming space. So it was the perfect blank canvas for the first shoot where our experienced styling team turned it into a pharmacy. For the second shoot, we wanted to capture some nighttime imagery. For this, the talent walked outside with neon lights reflecting on a cobblestone street that was wet down by a water truck to increase reflections.
Though the days were long, we accomplished an incredible amount each day. We experienced all Barcelona had to offer in terms of locations, culture, food, and drink.
