Berlin-based photographer Jordana Schramm recently completed a new photoshoot for return client Minotti Berlin. Minotti Berlin is one of the six Sarto* Group brands that comprise Sarto – Tailored Interiors. The Sarto* Group is known for its high-end interior design services. Its brands closely collaborate with real estate developers and architects to create customized living and working spaces. The Minotti brand was established in 1948 by designer Alberto Minotti in Meda, a town north of Milan. The international brand is now available in 80 countries. For this project, Minotti needed stills of its Berlin showroom for website, social media, and print advertising.
I’ve previously partnered with Minotti on multiple interior design projects. The client recognized in my portfolio my experience in architectural and interior design photography, especially when it comes to capturing the essence of high-end interiors. Minotti liked my ability to highlight the unique features of each architectural design to showcase a brand’s vision for its projects.
This project at the Minotti Berlin showroom suited my calm photographic style as it allowed me to showcase elegant and timeless furniture with modern architectural elements. I excel at capturing the essence of spaces with clean lines, muted colours, and compelling compositions.
Jordana met with the client to discuss the particulars and nuances of capturing architectural interiors of the brand’s interior design showroom.
The showroom is more of an apartment over two floors than a huge warehouse-style display, so there would be some physical constraints in framing the shots. I met with the client ahead of time to discuss how to show the Minotti Berlin showroom in a way that aligned with their brand guidelines.
Jordana worked on location for the one-day shoot with prop stylist Katinka Theuerkauff, and two assistants to help with furniture changes.
As the showroom is located in a former apartment, it was sometimes very challenging to get enough distance to create the compressed look I wanted. Katinka and I work a lot together, which helped create a relaxed mood on set. We knew we could make all the images in time, and we had what we needed to prop every image.
It’s always a challenge to work on location. You can move everything around in the studio, but when you’re shooting on location, which I often do, you have to find a solution if you ever have to deal with tight spaces. It’s all about preparing, checking the space beforehand, creating a shotlist, and asking the stylist to prepare some extra props to hide something or accentuate a feature.
It sounds like a cliché, but every photo shoot has its challenges and there is always something to learn.
Jordana’s Minotti Berlin showroom images were featured in Elle Decoration Germany‘s May/June 2022 issue.
