Dallas-based photographer Trevor Paulhus originally met Angela Scott, the fashionista behind The Office of Angela Scott, while taking her portrait for a publication several years ago. The two hit it off and Trevor became Angela’s go-to photographer for the luxury footwear brand.
Angela wanted something fun and a little quirky to promote her new season’s offerings, so naturally, she contacted Trevor. She wanted pictures with bold color, striking patterns, and interesting sets; all arranged to suggest a sort of narrative. Angela also wanted the pictures to reference the styling sensibilities of Wes Anderson.
Before the shoot, Angela and Trevor worked closely with producer Susanne Lancaster and prop stylist Lara Amis to iron out the logistical details and make sure they had all the necessary props and wardrobe. They then storyboarded everything and made a shot list in preparation for the two-day affair. Although she lives in LA, Angela flew to Dallas to meet Trevor shortly before the shoot day. She ended up serving as the Art Director and helping out on set any way she could — a fact Trevor greatly appreciated.
Everything was going according to schedule until one of the boxes of merchandise they needed for the shoot was held up in customs on its way from Portugal. This ended up delaying the shoot by a day and shifted everyone’s schedule a bit. Trevor took the slight setback in stride, making sure everything remained in order and the shoot proceeded.
In those kind of situations, there isn’t really much you can do but try and make the best of things. We ended up having to switch out a few crew members to fill the extra day in the schedule…but everything ended up working out just fine.
One of the aspects of the shoot Trevor enjoyed the most was the opportunity to be on set with people he recognizes as talented and hard-working – especially Angela herself.
It’s very rewarding to get to collaborate with someone who is really stoked about what they do and what they make…and it’s always a pleasure to spend time creating fun content with such sincerly great people.
Although Trevor has no plans to continue with this project’s concept, he’s already looking forward to shooting next season’s collection for Angela. He even hinted at the possibility of heading to Portugal to make some reportage and lifestyle photos of the production process of the shoes, so stay tuned!
