From his home base in Denver, Matt Trappe photographs adventure, lifestyle, and sports/fitness photography. Covering major races and working with clients like Discovery Communications, it’s obvious his career has been steadily growing. An ultra-marathoner himself, he is steeped in the culture of long-distance running. Listening to his stories almost made us want to throw on a pair of toe shoes and run up a jagged peak. In the end, we settled on looking at his pictures while eating entire bags of Swedish Fish.
Matt’s web design was already in good shape. He had strong branding in place on an attractive, very functional Squarespace site. All that he needed was a refreshed edit. His approach had been more project-based, which can lend credibility to a portfolio, but often ends up adding bulk and repetition. Our goal with Matt was simply to restructure and streamline his website, remaining true to his background and experience in running while expanding his reach into adventure and lifestyle markets.
After carefully considering his work we eventually arrived at four categories to highlight the variety in his approach and experience. Running is still very much at the core of his brand, but steering away from his large body of race coverage, we place him more in line with his commercial goals. Matt was really pleased with the edit, implementing the changes in a matter of hours! Working with Matt was a real pleasure, and we look forward to seeing more of his exciting work from the safety of our office chairs. Here’s what Matt had to say about the process:
Working with Sean and Wonderful Machine on my web portfolio edit was not only smooth and easy but it has elevated the presentation of my work to acquire new clients. A discussion of my goals and aspirations helped to guide our image choices and the order of their presentation. With so much experience on their side it gave me a lot of confidence to be working with the team at WM.
