Wilmington, North Carolina-based Photographer Kevin Titus has been working with Wonderful Machine consultants quite a bit this year. Just a few months ago, he went in-depth with SEO consultant Ashley Vaught dissecting the mechanics of his professional website. Kevin recently came to Wonderful Machine’s photo editor and creative consultant Jemma Dilag for a complete Web Edit. The fashion and portrait photographer was looking for a revamp of his portfolio presentation and aimed to curate a collection that would help him branch out into more lifestyle and brand narrative work.
My goal for my web edit was to distill and refine my portfolio into organized and purposeful galleries that would make clients want to hire me.
With the primary goal of tightening up Kevin’s selection and focusing on where he wants to take his work in the future, he sent an extensive library of imagery over to Wonderful Machine. Jemma first got to work on identifying his target audience. With so many images to work with, they needed to create a rough outline of new galleries that would cater to Kevin’s “targets” while still highlighting his strengths and passions.
They settled on three different galleries: Fashion, Lifestyle, and Portraits.
Working with Wonderful Machine and Jemma was an absolute pleasure. The reassurance and guidance I received was invaluable. With the insight I’ve gleaned, I feel well-equipped to make significant traction in my branding and marketing efforts.
Removing the dropdown menus and sub-categories created a more straightforward presentation. Still, with that, Jemma needed to create cohesive galleries that flowed from a commercial-style to Kevin’s favored moodier approach. Jumping from one gallery to the next shouldn’t feel jarring, just as scrolling from the top of a gallery to the bottom. The trick for Kevin’s galleries was to balance appealing to typical commercial clients and presenting where he’d like to take his work in the future.
Jemma utilized the images’ color and light to guide them through the galleries, resulting in a well-rounded and unified photo library.
I’m thrilled with my new portfolio and look forward to continue adding upcoming projects to make it even better.
