Today we’re looking at a web edit I just finished up with photographer Patrick Heagney, who is a lifestyle and portrait photographer based in Atlanta. Patrick has shot a lot of new work over the past year, so he came to us for some assistance polishing up his presentation.
Patrick’s main focus is expressive and elegant portraits and lifestyle images, and he’s worked with clients like Bristol Myers Squibb, Georgia Pacific, Arby’s, Verizon, BULGARI, and more. He regularly keeps his portfolio up to date so the goal was to refresh and clean up his galleries to include the best of his new work and ensure it aligned with the types of clients he would like to attract.
When we began working together, we discussed targeting national publications like Fast Company and beverage brands like Bacardi and Coke, as well as some of the newer creative agencies. We reviewed his existing galleries and decided to consolidate the images into more concise collections. We also loved the look of GIFs peppered throughout the galleries so that was something we wanted to include.
Originally, Patrick had two galleries worth of portraiture work. We decided we wanted to tighten this up to a single gallery so it didn’t detract from the rest of his presentation, and give more room for his lifestyle work.
For the final edit, we condensed the portrait galleries and cleaned up his overview gallery to show off the best of his recent work. The overview gallery seamlessly blends his portrait and lifestyle photos in sequences together, with the occasional fun GIF peppered in to shake things up a bit.
Patrick also had some beautiful fine art photography on his site, but we decided to move that to a separate URL, so as to not crowd the portrait and lifestyle work we wanted his clients to focus on.
The final edit provided a simple, elegant, and easy-to-navigate collection of galleries that felt polished and contemporary, showing off the best of his new images from the last year or so and the rest of his standout work.
Overall, Patrick was very pleased with the way the galleries turned out and felt that the edit was able to hit all the right notes. We also managed to finish up early (just after our second round of editing!) so I used our extra time together to make some selections for small promo edits that he would use in his upcoming email campaign. Here is what Patrick had to say about the process:
It was great! Andrew chatted with me to get a feel for the direction I wanted to go and then he sifted through hundreds of new and old pictures to deliver a really nice edit. During the process, he was responsive to my questions and was open to changing things based on my input.
