From the Bay Area of San Francisco to the scenic woods of Minneapolis, photographer Adam Hester gives us the inside scoop on a recently completed project he made for some close friends and colleagues over at Chef Camp. Aiming to share the experience and tell a story, Adam captured a library of still images, plus a short video to give the full effect of the highly involved and fun cooking camp.
Armed with a list of classes and a reliable crew, including Director of Photography Chris Worlow and Editor Joseph McMahon, Adam’s team packed their bags and setup camp (literally). As a man with a passion for his craft, Adam was excited to be surrounded by others who share a similar appetite.
Everyone was really excited about sharing their skills and just being a part of what was a really special weekend, from the Chefs, Organizers, Designers, and even the Volunteers! Also, the northern lights came out the first night that was a cool thing to experience with everyone up there.
The camp itself was very well organized, making Adam’s job fairly painless. As campers went about their days in the wilderness learning how to cook with limited tools, tasting yummy creations, and continuing to bond with each other and their mentors (culinary geniuses), Adam had no issue capturing the clear enjoyment that everyone was feeling.
It was just a matter of capturing everything in both stills and motion. I will say, the only stressful part was making sure we had time to interview most of the organizers, chefs, and a few campers so that I knew I would have some real meaty content to tell the story with.
Add some whipped cream and a cherry on top, because Adam’s work has been a crowd favorite! Not only have some of the campfire images appeared in a few magazine promos and been featured in the APA show in San Francisco, but Chef Camp was sure to include pieces from the series in a cookbook they designed.
After a few successful seasons of Chef Camp, the organizers have decided to extend the popular workshop twice this year, taking place on the weekends of September 1st and 9th. Adam is eager to return for another round of chowing down on delicious grub and creating more fun images and motion videos.
