Hoover, Alabama-based photographer Art Meripol recently completed a project for AAA’s Alabama Journey Magazine on Steel City Pops‘s gourmet, all-natural popsicles. After Alabama Journey ran the pictures on the cover of their May/June edition, another magazine, Alabama Magazine, reached out to Art for more pictures of Steel City Pops’s colorful treats.
I was afraid the popsicles would melt too fast, so I ran by a local stone and marble counter shop and they generously gave me a thick slab of marble. Then I put it in my deep freeze overnight and built my set on top of it, and they didn’t melt for the half hour I shot.
I called a stylist friend who gave me the best piece of advice…for photographing crushed ice, nobody has better ice than Sonic Drive-In. It photographs beautifully.
