It’s almost Valentine’s Day, and jewelry is in the air. Or wait…is it love? Maybe both for photographer Jillian Clark, who was recently asked by Kenda Kist to create the new campaign for this year’s Kenda Kist jewelry line. Kenda’s jewelry is all hand crafted, and she asked Jillian to capture “the love and craftsmanship that goes into each piece.”
For this campaign, Kenda wanted to show the jewelry off in a contextual way. After hearing the type of look Kenda wanted, Jillian had an idea for a model, and she turned out to be a perfect fit. “Someone who looks young, but not too young, fashionable but approachable,” says Jillian. Jillian says she approached the photos as she would approach beauty portraits. More than product shots, this shoot was about creating a face for the brand, and Jillian plans to work with Kenda in the spring to do a full lifestyle shoot that tells the story of the woman who wears Kenda Kist jewelry.
Jillian says her ultimate goal was to show the beautiful simplicity of the designs without distracting from the jewelry. And because the jewelry was so delicate and nuanced, they had to pay extra attention to detail. The wardrobe, hair, and makeup for the model, as well as the lighting and backdrop, were specially planned so nothing drew attention from the jewelry.
A heavily stacked and layered look was used to help make the jewelry pop as the star of the images.
Jillian says that Kenda was absolutely ecstatic with the images and that they captured exactly the mood she wanted in this new campaign. The photos are being used on the Kenda Kist website, and will also be blown up and printed for advertising displays.
