Liz Kuball: The New York Times Style Magazine
Los Angeles, California-based photographer Liz Kuball recently documented the efforts of an anonymous designer whose brand is called 69 to provide inclusive garments that can be worn by anyone. On an assignment for T: The New York Times Style Magazine, Liz photographed the designer wearing their latest clothing line, which focuses on interpretations of denim, in their studio near MacArthur Park.
I knew the designer was anonymous and wanted to stay that way. Jamie and I emailed briefly about getting a portrait of them in a way that obscured their identity. I had some ideas in mind before I showed up, but they already knew they wanted to be photographed in the black body suit, so that made it even easier.
The shoot was casual and laid back. The only other people there were the designer themselves and the writer. I started photographing the studio space while the writer and the designer talked. And then as the interview wrapped up, I was ready to photograph the designer. They were open to different ideas and brought some of their own. It was a lot of fun!
