If I had one wish, I’d wish to eat chocolate cake every day. Doesn’t that sound dreamy? Actually, there have been studies about people who eat chocolate cake with breakfast and lose weight. Though I’m not a nutritionist, so I probably shouldn’t be spreading suspicious-sounding diets around the internet. But man, what a way to improve your day…and life.
But, since I don’t get to eat cake every day, I do the next best thing: stare at delicious photos of it. And this month, we decided to share the love with a piece of chocolate deliciousness with an avant-garde twist. These decadent delights were printed by Modern Postcard and sent to 2989 creatives across North America, inviting them to “dig in” to our talented photo roster, including, among others, some delicious chocolate shooters.
This yummy photo was conceptualized and captured by Nashville-based Kyle Dreier (with some help from food stylists Whitney Kemp and Teresa Blackburn) for his “Foodism” series—his own personal take on cubism. Kyle was kind enough to share some comments about the project, as well as his original sketches:
This was a project inspired by the Cubism Movement. I was basically looking for an excuse to cut plates in half and do hand-painted typography…two things I seem to enjoy.
Pretty much everything you see was done in-camera, except for one small detail which I guess we’ll just keep a secret for the sake of maintaining some level of mystery…
There you have it. A four-course meal as a cubist might serve it.
