Back in 1988, Cincinnati-based photographer Teri Campbell occupied his first commercial studio space, nearly maxing out his bank account with the hopes of increasing business. Well, it’s safe to say it worked! By 2001, Teri had packed up shop and moved to a beautiful 13,000 square-foot space, of which 3,000 square feet is devoted to prop storage. Recently, the fun pieces in this collection helped set the scene for a new photo series, Pantry Promos.
From tables to glasses, plates, fabrics, and even banana costumes, you’re bound to find what you need for your next shoot in Teri’s prop room. There are thousands of pieces to choose from, after all!
I love collecting props and I’m always on the hunt for something that inspires me. Of course, there are some items that I use again and again, but finding just the right thing that I forgot I had stored away…that’s like Christmas morning to me.
Among his massive space of set accessories lies a fully-equipped commercial kitchen, including a full fridge and pantry. And Teri knows there’s only one way to create storage for more food…
That’s right, Teri and his talented crew have formulated a plan to dwindle their food storage by whipping up drool-worthy plates using only what’s available to them within the walls of the studio. That’s with the exception of the outdoor garden surrounding the building, of course!
I work with a lot of stylists and we are always trying think of new projects to enhance our portfolios. I knew this was a great way to open up a can of creativity for all of us!
With a “know it when I see it” approach, Teri allows his many different stylists to work their magic in this series. Whether it’s creating a delicious, overflowing bowl of mac and cheese or a beautifully-plated summer salad, all backed by stunning props, Teri’s wheels start to turn as the dishes come to life.
The stylists are having a great time with it and love working against each other in a “Chopped competition” sort of way. It has also become a great way to test new stylists I hire prior to client shoots.
Pantry Promos is serving Teri well, as the portfolio additions have attracted many clients. Teri plans to expand on this project as he continues to stock his kitchen and seek out fresh, new stylists to collaborate with along the way.
