At the age of three, Al Argueta first traveled to Guatemala with his father and was utterly captivated by the country’s landscape and its Maya inhabitants. He would later live in Guatemala for two years, allowing him to formally learn Spanish and to experience Guatemala’s culture firsthand. During summers in high school and college, Al often took a month off to travel to Guatemala, exploring its jungles, ruins, and villages. It was also when he first dabbled in photography, capturing images of the people and landscapes he encountered. In college, Al majored in Journalism and Latin American Studies, managing to squeeze in two study-abroad programs, one in Manchester and one in Maastricht, and traveled through much of Europe. After college, he interned with Costa Rica’s Tico Times, getting his first exposure to travel writing and photography, in addition to covering then-President Bill Clinton’s visit to Guatemala. Al worked briefly for a newspaper in the Virgin Islands before moving on to photography school in Hawaii. He also taught English to college students in Thailand for a time, continuing to satiate the travel bug that bit him years back. Al now lives in Austin, Texas, where he’s managed to stay put for an unprecedented thirteen years. He specializes in commercial and editorial photography for clients that have included National Geographic Traveler, Caribbean Travel + Life, Condé Nast Traveler, Outside’s GO, and Hemispheres.
Danish born photographer Anders Overgaard comes from Helsingor, Hamlet’s notorious hometown. Anders’ interest in photography was first piqued at age 10, when he began by snapping photos of what he knew – his skateboarder and windsurfing friends. His love of the outdoors and the water continues to fuel the energetic quality of his current work. After completing his education at the Copenhagen Graphic Design School, Anders spent a year in Paris learning about the fashion business and freelance assisting notable photographers like Gilles Bensimon. In 1990, Anders moved to New York to work with world-class photographer Bruce Weber and then spent the next five thrilling years traveling with Bruce as though he was in a rock band. Anders’ high standards and complete devotion to creating the best possible imagery for his clients was shaped during those years. Ultimately, Anders put down roots in New York, where he has worked as a photographer for the last 15 years. Anders’ images possess a fresh, simmering vitality that threatens to jump off the page. In his photographic world, life is active, engaged, and physical, with a cinematic, narrative twist and a real sense of beauty of every kind. Anders always brings an open-minded, international perspective, and ease to the work he does for advertising, fashion, and celebrity clients. Anders’ editorial work has appeared in Harper’s Bazaar, Vanity Fair, Vogue, GQ, Interview and The New York Times Magazine, amongst others. A few of Anders’ advertising clients include Estee Lauder, Saks Fifth Avenue, Gap, Nautica, Ralph Lauren, & Tiffany. Jenn Ackerman and Tim Gruber are a husband and wife team based in Minneapolis, MN. Their images are full of life and color. Simply put we are storytellers. We enjoy the collaborative nature of being a tight-knit team and pushing each other to create images that sing. Our goal on every assignment is simple - evoke emotion and authenticity in every image we make. We believe you can’t forget what you feel so we try to make images that make you feel something. We pride ourselves in connecting with everyone we photograph. Whether you are a 10-year-old or a CEO, we find something to relate to with everyone and in turn we come away with something that is genuine and meaningful. We can’t tell you how many times people have told us that it was the best experience they have ever had with a photographer. We pride ourselves in being kind and making sure everyone has that experience. Our work has been honored by the Communication Arts Photography Annual and Advertising Annual 2009, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2019, American Photography 28, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, PDN Photo Annual, CENTER Project Competition, Photolucida’s Critical Mass, Inge Morath Award, Magnum Expression Award, POYi, and many others.
